2015-2016 school year

Syllabus for 2015-2016

Welcome to a brand new school year. I look forward to working with you all this year as we examine the history of our world in the medieval period. We will examine such cultures as medieval Europe, China, India, Africa, the Americas, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the Scientific Revolution. There will be a great emphasis on linking these cultures to the present day. Here at the STEM Academy, we use Project Based Learning in our curriculum. World history students will use a variety of strategies to examine history. These include critical thinking, Socratic Circles, discussions, debates, small projects, and large projects. We will begin the year discussing primary and secondary sources and will progress to document analysis and historical thinking skills such as sourcing, corroboration, and examining of evidence. In this way, we will look at the past with a critical eye, asking questions along the way. Technology will be central to our course of study. Each student will be required to use their Chromebook for research and writing. Many of the assignments will be done completely online using Google Classroom. I hope to make learning history fun and exciting. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time using email @ jduffany@sandwich.k12.ma.us.
