Once alerted to the coming of the British, the Militia in Lexington under the control of Captain Parker scrambled to prepare for the arrival of the British. Once in Lexington, the British under the command of Colonel Smith attempted to talk the colonist into going home, when a shot rang out. Who fired that first shot nobody knows, but in the ensuing melee, eight colonist were killed and ten were wounded. After leaving Lexington, the British left to take the stores held at Concord..
