Parenthetical Citation

MLA Parenthetical Citation

When citing a direct quote, put the quote in quotation marks. After the quotation marks, put the authors last name in parentheses and the page number. (Duffany, 10)

If there is not author, put the first thing that appears on the bibliography. ("Life in the Mills, 10)

If there is no page number, leave that out. (Duffany)

If there are two items from the same author, include the title as well. (Duffany, "Life in the Mills", 10)
