Trans Saharan Trade Skit

During the Medieval period, trade was essential to the kingdoms of West Africa. These kingdoms flourished from trade with Arabs from the North. The city of Timbuktu was a major center of the this trade as well as a cultural center for the region. Camel caravans would leave from North Africa headed south with blocks of salt and luxury goods to trade for gold and grain from West Africa. Travel on this treacherous journey took up to 114 days from Fez to Timbuktu. With a group of three or four, examine the following site for details about the trans-Saharan trade route https://sites.google.com/site/crossingthesahara/home
Discuss the dangers and motivations of travelling across the Sahara Desert. Using the information you find, devise a one minute skit with your group that depicts the perils of trans-Saharan trade routes in the Medieval World. You will perform this skit in class. Good luck.
